In addition to following SFU’s policies, rules and regulations, there are additional CDM regulations.
Campus Access
CDM Campus is access-card only. Upon completion of the Access Card form, students will be issued a keycard linked to their name. Under no circumstances should access cards be shared or lent to others. In the event of a lost card, students must immediately notify the Campus and Security Coordinator. A replacement card incurs a fee of $50. After the last day of classes, you will need to return your keycard; otherwise, $50 will be deducted from your equipment deposit.
Visitors are not permitted on campus unless their visit is educationally related and has been approved by CDM staff. Guests on campus need to be accompanied by their host. Students have 24/7 access to the campus with their access card while they are actively enrolled. However, if any campus policies are violated, CDM reserves the right to restrict campus access.
Discrimination and Harassment
The CDM is committed to providing a fair and equitable learning and working environment which is free from all prohibited forms of discrimination and harassment, as set out in the British Columbia Human Rights Code, and encourages the responsible exercise of academic and artistic freedom.
Equipment Deposit
CDM loans out equipment to support teaching, learning, and research by faculty, staff, visiting students, and students in the MDM and TCB programs. Borrowed items are the student’s responsibility. If the item is returned damaged or not returned at all by the end of their studies at CDM, the cost of a replacement will be deducted from their $1,500 CAD equipment deposit. In addition, students are responsible for maintaining their assigned project room. Any damages incurred in the project room will result in deductions from each team member’s equipment deposit.
Parking
There is no free parking for MDM students or personal guests on CDM campus at this time. We will be reserving 4 student-stalls at the North Lot for monthly rental, at the price of $100/month (before tax & translink fee). First come, first serve. Please contact jacky_ip@thecdm.ca.
There is limited hourly pay-parking available in our south lot, directly in front of CDM 577.
For monthly parking options nearby, 565 Great Northern Way (an underground lot accessible via Carolina Street) may have availability. It’s $167.50 + taxes per month which is on par with other parking lots like Easy Park charge around Vancouver. If you’d like to sign up, please email Moe Ezzo at Reef Parking, moe.ezzo@reefparking.com. Note gate locks at 11pm (midnight access may require a fob and extra fee).
Pets
Part of working closely together in the CDM community is being adaptable and ensuring we make a comfortable environment for people to work and learn. Pets are important parts of our lives but the CDM campus is not intended to be a regular home for animals. Bringing a pet to campus is a privilege and brings responsibilities.
CDM classrooms and shared spaces, such as the projects rooms, boardroom, gym, computer lab and kitchen, will remain pet-free locations.
Pets can be brought through common spaces, such as the lobby and shared hallways, on their way to approved spaces but they cannot remain in those common spaces for prolonged time periods.
Students wishing to bring pets to work on an ad hoc and limited basis must:
- Inform the Manager of Property & Facilities and the Manager of People & Culture by email in advance of the animal coming to campus.
- Ensure the animal is restricted to their office space.
- Ensure control (such as access to a leash or carrier) when the animal is entering or exiting a building through common spaces.
- Promptly dispose of the animal’s waste into outdoor-only garbage (not compost) receptacles.
- Agree to be financially responsible for any damage caused by the animal.
- Ensure the animal has all its current vaccinations and appropriate identification tags.
- Accept full responsibility for the animal during its time on campus. CDM assumes no responsibility for animals on campus.
CDM encourages direct communication to the pet owner if there are concerns, however, issues can be brought forward in a confidential manner to the Manager of People and Culture. While the aim is to find mutually agreeable practices if issues arise, CDM reserves the right to ask that an animal not return to campus if it is disruptive or infringes upon the health and safety of others.
Notes: The Guide and Service Dog Act of BC and the Human Rights Code allow for the use of service animals. Service animals and service animals in training shall be allowed access to all spaces in the workplace. CDM may require proof of certification or need for service animals.
Dorset Realty manages the residential tenancies on campus. The language of the residential tenancy agreements remains in effect and is not impacted by the above guidelines.
Exceptions are made only for certified trained assistance and guide dogs used by differently- abled individuals to access the campus.
Smoking Regulations
Smoking is prohibited in all internal areas of CDM. It is permitted outside in accordance with civic and provincial laws. There is a smoking shelter in the north parking lot.
Drugs and Alcohol
Use or possession of any illegal substance is a criminal offence and is not tolerated on CDM premises. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed on campus only during officially sanctioned, licensed events within the area designated for the event.
Bikes
We have a bike room available for students to store their bikes and scooters. Please fill out the below waiver, and you will be granted access to it.
