Campus Safety

Contact Campus Security anytime

Campus Security is available 24/7. Call 604.655.8497 if you need help, feel threatened, or notice suspicious activity.

Campus Access

CDM Campus is access-card only. Upon completion of the Access Card form, students will be issued a keycard linked to their name. Under no circumstances should access cards be shared or lent to others. In the event of a lost card, students must immediately notify the Campus and Security Coordinator. A replacement card incurs a fee of $50. After the last day of classes, you will need to return your keycard; otherwise, $50 will be deducted from your equipment deposit.

Visitors are not permitted on campus unless their visit is educationally related and has been approved by CDM staff. Guests on campus need to be accompanied by their host. Students have 24/7 access to the campus with their access card while they are actively enrolled. However, if any campus policies are violated, CDM reserves the right to restrict campus access.

Reporting building or classroom issues

Please contact the Campus and Security Coordinator if you notice broken lights, heating or air conditioning problems, unsafe building infrastructure, or overgrown landscaping.

Keeping your stuff safe

Don’t leave valuables like your phone or computer unattended. There are lockers available for students. Please reach out to the Campus and Security Coordinator to sign-up for one. Students must provide their own lock. At the end of the program, you must clean out your locker or the items will be thrown out or donated.

As a preventative measure, upload free device location software like Find My iPhone to track your phone or computer if it should ever be lost or stolen.

If you bike to campus, we have a bike locker room in the 577 building. Please contact it@thecdm.ca for access.

If you lose something on campus, please check the front desk.

The CDM is not liable for loss, theft, or damage to students’ work. This includes work that may be damaged as a result of computer failure, faulty equipment, technical-related issues, or other circumstances beyond the CDM’s control such as theft, fire or flood.

Know the signs of an accidental drug poisoning

Many illegal substances in Canada can have unknown mixes of drugs in them, like fentanyl or benzodiazepines. This has resulted in many deaths in British Columbia and across the country.

You can get a free and confidential naloxone kit from Student Services, the front desk, at any participating BC pharmacy, or if you’re located between Burnaby and Bost Bar, you can order free kits at Harm Reduction.

Frauds and scams

Unfortunately, there are many different frauds and scams out there, such as those impersonating government departments like the Canada Revenue Agency.

Visit the RCMP website for valuable tips on how to protect your money and remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If you suspect a phone call, email, rental, job offer, or anything else may be a scam, or if you have been the victim of a scam, the best thing to do is call the police at 911.

Reach out for sexual assault support

If you have experienced sexual violence or if you know someone who has, call 778.782.7233 to contact the Sexual Violence Support and Prevention Office (SVSPO) for support. Case managers are available Monday-Friday, 9am-4:30pm (excluding statutory holidays). Appointments may be held outside of these hours, by request. For after-hours support, please visit the Get Help page for 24/7 services.
